Friday evening I used the sinking ship metaphor in a conversation[*]. It is more accurately the lemon (twist) ship, definitely in need of work.

Walking the plank plays into the dynamic evolution. As a party wanes out of power, less partisan or more pragmatic(some may read opportunistic) members leave to dilute the partisanship of the new ship and leave a more concentrated sunken ship.
